A Cincinnati man has been sentenced to the maximum 55 years in prison in the September kidnapping and robbery of a cab driver left clinging to life.
A jury found 30-year-old Charles Black guilty of felonious assault, kidnapping aggravated robbery and other charges on Friday.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Black robbed Mulugeta Shiferaw and put him in the trunk of his taxi while he drove it around town Sept. 8.
When taxi dispatchers couldn't reach Shiferaw, who is from Ethiopia, they called police.
Prosecutors say Black led police on two high-speed chases and tried to hit two officers on foot before he crashed.
Shieferaw was locked in the trunk for 10 hours, depriving him of oxygen and injuring his brain. He's being kept alive on a feeding tube.
