Oberlin College in northeast Ohio plans a new athletic complex to be financed with an $8 million foundation gift.

The groundbreaking will be held Nov. 16 before Oberlin hosts Hiram in college football.

The gift came from the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation and will be named in honor of the late businessman.

The complex will include a football field with artificial turf, grandstands, locker rooms and meeting spaces.

The Knowlton Construction Co. did more than 600 major construction projects throughout Ohio and the Midwest, including colleges, hospitals and libraries.

Knowlton was a founding partner of the Cincinnati Bengals and minority owner of the Cincinnati Reds.
