Ohio AG Plans Crackdown On Internet Gaming Cafes
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says search warrants have been executed on six storefront gambling-like operations known as Internet cafes.
DeWine also says that several bank accounts were seized as part of the operation.
DeWine's announcement doesn't say where the cafes are, but he's planning a Wednesday afternoon news conference in Cleveland. Among local police attending the news conference are representatives from Parma Heights, a Cleveland suburb.
At an earlier news conference Wednesday, DeWine said he's taking his authority to prosecute the cafes for illegal gambling from a district court order that ruled against cafes in Cleveland.
Backers of the businesses say they are legal and help the economy, and they say the Cleveland appeals court ruling extends only to cafes in that city.
