Officer Honored For Helping Track Down 'Counter Jumper' Robber

Central Ohio Crime Stoppers presented their officer of the month award to Columbus Police Sgt. Ralph Guglielmi on Wednesday.

Guglielmi could not attend the presentation due to special training.

Jason Pappas with the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9 accepted the award on behalf. This monthly award is sponsored by the F.O.P and United Dairy Farmers.
According to a press release from Crime Stoppers, Guglielmi helped take an armed robber off the street and many previously unsolved robberies were solved.
In 2011, Columbus police dubbed a serial robber as the ‘counter jumper’ because of how he robbed several businesses on the north end of town.

On November 16, 2011, a police intelligence report went out division wide with details of the suspect, believed to be living in the area of Sinclair Road.

According to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, Guglielmi immediately thought of someone that matched the description of the 'counter jumper' based on previous encounters. Guglielmi also knew this person was in a custody battle with his ex-girlfriend which would provide a need for money.
Crime Stoppers said because of the information passed on from Guglielmi, SWAT officers tailed the suspect who was apprehended while committing an armed robbery.
