The clip that was filmed by Columbus Dispatch videographer Doral Chenoweth III first appeared on the Dispatch Web site on Monday.
It showed Williams standing near the ramp from Hudson Street and Interstate 71, demonstrating his voice. A sign he held read, "I'm an ex-radio announcer who has fallen on hard times."
Williams said that he battled drugs, alcohol and life on the streets. He spent time in prison and has been living in a tent, Hirsch reported.
"I had no idea something like this would ever happen," Williams said.
The video went viral. Columbus radio station WNCI-FM (97.9) offered him air time to share his story.
The Ohio Credit Union League presented Williams with a $10,000 offer for voice-over work.
He has not accepted any job offers yet and said he is still trying deal with the shock of what has happened to him over the past 48 hours, Hirsch reported.
"The biggest prayer that I've ever had is I wanted my mom to live long enough for her to see me have a second chance," Williams said. "Because she didn't raise me to be holding a sign."
Experts said that 80 percent of the homeless people in central Ohio are not chronic, meaning there was a dramatic event, such as job loss or injury, that caused them to lose their home, 10TV's Danielle Elias reported.
"In fact, when we compare the amount of families that needed shelter for overflow this year, compared to last year, it's about a 3,750 percent increase," said Michelle Heritage Ward, with the Community Shelter Board. "It's very significant."
10TV has asked Williams to provide narration for promotional spots during the station's "One Day to End Homelessness" telethon on Jan. 31, according to Frank Willson, the station's director of operations.
