ODOT To Add Extra Lane To I-71 North Between Delaware, Morrow Counties

The Ohio Department of Transportation is widening Interstate 71 from Delaware County northward.

The plan will affect the part of I-71 that is currently just two lanes. It is the only part of I-71 between Columbus and Cleveland that is two lanes.

The stretch of highway to be widened runs north of U.S. Route 36/state Route 37 to just north of S.R. 61 in Morrow County.

Noah Bolen is a sales representative at the RCD Sales' newest location in Delaware, on state Route 37.  This is the same road that will soon see a new outlet mall.

It’s a growing area just off of I-71 where drivers like Bolen sometimes get stuck.

“Whenever I get past Delaware, it goes from three lanes to two. It seems like no matter how many cars it always slows down right there,” said Bolen.

Several bridges will also be reconstructed as part of the project.

The work is scheduled to begin in March. Speed limits will be reduced to 55 miles per hour during the construction, and traffic will be shifted through the work area.
