Indiana authorities have charged former Ohio State Basketball player Greg Oden with three battery counts, following a recent incident with his girlfriend.

Court documents indicate the August 7 fight resulted in his girlfriend suffering a facial fracture which may require surgery.

The fight occurred in the morning in Lawrence, Indiana. Oden was apparently drinking at a nearby club, according to the police report.

Although Oden's girlfriend originally told police she was injured when she fell, that story later changed.

A witness at the home told Oden's girlfriend that she should tell authorities that "(Oden) punched her in the face."

"Things got out of control, and I started to go after (my girlfriend.) My mother and (the witness) tried to hold me back, but I swung my arms to move them out of the way and then punched (his girlfriend) in the face," said Oden.

Oden now faces charges of Battery, Domestic Battery, and Battery Resulting In Injury.
