Northeast Columbus Church Repeatedly Targeted By Copper Thieves

A Northeast Columbus church hopes police can catch the criminals targeting their building for copper.

The pastor of First Church of Christ said he will pray for the criminals who stole his church’s copper, and will do everything in his power to protect his congregation.

Pastor Moses Butler said he has presided over First Church of Christ on the northeast side of Columbus for nearly four decades.

Butler said in the last several months, vandals have ripped almost all of the church’s copper siding, tubing and gutters.

He said even more was taken over the weekend, and that the criminals even cut the surveillance system wiring.

"The camera would have caught them on this side but they cut the wires before they got on this side," Pastor Butler said.

"I think the times are hard now, you know?   The economy and everybody is doing everything to get what they can, and drug dealers and all kinds of people doing just crazy stuff."

So far, Columbus Police have not made any arrests.
