Police: Woman, 9-year-old boy injured during Hilltop shooting

Officers also found a cat shot inside the residence. It was taken to the Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 37-year-old woman and a 9-year-old boy were shot while inside their apartment in the Hilltop neighborhood on Wednesday.

The Columbus Division of Police was called to the 800 block of Wedgewood Drive just before 8 p.m. for a reported shooting.

Arriving officers found the woman and the boy suffering from what police described as minor gunshot wounds. 

The boy was taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital and the woman was taken to Grant Medical Center for treatment. Both are expected to survive their injuries.

Officers also found a cat shot inside the residence. It was taken to the Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center.

Police said the victims were sitting inside their apartment when multiple gunshots were fired through the front door.

The incident is under investigation. Police did not release any information about a possible suspect.
