Newark Police Officer Loses Control Of Cruiser, Crashes Into Pole While Chasing Stolen Vehicle

A Newark police officer was hospitalized after a Tuesday morning crash.

According to police, Officer Michael Trotter was injured during the crash, which occurred along Horns Hill Road around 4 a.m.

Investigators said that Trotter was following the driver of a stolen vehicle when he lost control and struck a power pole.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, Joshua Brown, pulled into a Poplar Street driveway and entered a home. Police took him and his passenger, Tiffany Reeder, into custody a short time later.

Trotter was transported to Grant Medical Center and was expected to recover.

Horns Hill Road was closed between Cedar Run Road and Meadlowland Drive during the investigation. Power crews were called to the scene.
