New Trial Date Set For Athens County Sheriff
A new trial date has been set for an Ohio sheriff facing 25 charges in a corruption case.
Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly has pleaded innocent to charges including theft in office, tampering with records and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and is confident he will be exonerated.
The Athens Messenger reported Thursday that Judge Patricia Cosgrove rescheduled Kelly's September trial to Jan. 26.
The paper says Kelly's defense lawyer wants a delay because of the "voluminous" amount of records in the case.
Cosgrove says moving the trial out of Athens County is unlikely and would be done only as a last resort if it was impossible to seat an impartial jury.
