Murder Trial Begins For Man Accused Of Dumping Daughter-In-Law's Body In Septic Tank

The trial for a southeast Ohio man charged in connection with his daughter-in-law's murder began on Monday.

William Inman Sr. is charged with aggravated murder in the death of his daughter-in-law who was strangled with a zip tie and dumped in a septic tank in 2011.

Inman, 48, could face the death penalty if convicted.

Inman's wife and son have been convicted in the March 2011 slaying of Summer Inman of Logan, about 45 miles southeast of Columbus.

The case is being tried in Ross County after a jury could not be seated in Hocking County.

Inman sat stoically as the prosecution called witnesses on Monday.

One witness talked about walking by the bank where Summer Inman was working the night of March 22, 2011.

When Summer did not return home when expected that night, her mom, Debbie Cook, quickly raced to the bank with Summer's boyfriend

“We kind of stood there looking around, she was just gone,” said Cook. “I know that her husband and his parents took her… know they took her”

Cook told the jury that a week passed before she knew her daughter’s fate.

“She was found in the septic tank at Faith Tabernacle, church they went to,” said Cook.

Cook said her daughter had been living in fear while she was going through her divorce with William Inman Jr.

“Summer said ‘Willie’ had told her before, if she ever left him, he would kill her and that if she ever tried to take the kids away from him, he would kill her,” testified Cook.

The defense told the jury that the younger Inman’s parents came in and cleaned up the mess their son had made, but they maintain Inman Sr. did not kill his daughter in law.

"He did not place that zip tie around her neck,” said Andrew Stevenson, defense attorney.

The jury will be sequestered during the trial.
