Mother Accused Of Endangering Children Twice
A mother is facing three felony charges in connection with allegedly endangering her children.
Chillicothe police said that 32-year-old Megan Brown got their attention after a dash camera video showed her van failing to brake at a stop sign on East Second Street.
"She drove through the intersection and did not have her headlights on," said Sgt. Ron Meyers of the Chillicothe Police Department.
Brown can be heard on dash cam video saying that her 9-year-old and 11-year-old were missing and that it was not the first time they had taken off.
The mother told investigators that she had not seen her children in six hours. She allegedly left them with a friend on Warner Avenue. Instead of calling police when she couldn't find them, she told investigators that she went
looking for them.
"She was concerned that she would go to prison because of her two unruly children," Meyers said.
Police said that when they pulled her over, they noticed her 5-year-old daughter in the backseat without a seatbelt, along with a man passed out in the car.
They also said they believed the mother was under the influence of alcohol.
"I only had one and a half Budweiser today," Brown could be heard on dash cam saying.
When police tested her to see if she was OK to drive, video showed her tripping over her feet.
Police say it was not the first time the mother of three endangered her children. Court documents show that she was convicted of child endangering in 2011.
No one answered the door at Brown's home when 10TV News requested a comment.
Police said that at the time of Brown's arrest, her blood alcohol level was slightly below the legal limit.
She was charged with OVI because they felt she was impaired.
Her children were placed into the care of a family member.
