A corp of volunteers and their families put others before themselves today to make sure some adults in need had a proper Thanksgiving meal.

The volunteers met at Lifecare Alliance facility, then spread out through the area taking meals on wheels.

The do-gooder’s commitment to the needy came before theirThanksgiving dinner plans.

They checked their lists, packed their cars and took off—delivering meals and smiles for the holiday.

Betsy Smith was among the hundreds who gave time.

“Because I can,” Smith said. “I’m retired, and very blessed. It’s one way I can give to the community.”

So she did, going door-to-door visiting older or people who had medical difficulties.

For many of those receiving help, isolation and need do not take a break for the holidays. Volunteers like Smith delivered more than 800 ready-to-eat roast turkey dinners for the organization.
