Marion Schools Working To Keep Students Safe

Security upgrades for schools are up and running in Marion County.

Marion City Schools and River Valley Local Schools implemented new security systems after incidents like the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Connecticut.

Many Marion County schools added systems that require visitors to buzz in to the office before entering the rest of the school.

School officials say this is just one step in an overhaul in school security.
The Marion Star reported that the school districts are going to try and seek reimbursement for some of the cost of the upgrades.

The Ohio Attorney General's Office offers up to $5,000 for each building for school security.
