A man police say hit and killed a shopper and injured his girlfriend faced a judge on Monday.

Montez Hollins remains in jail on a $150,000 bond.

Police say he was reportedly driving too fast in a West Columbus parking lot.

Jason Barry and Kristina Petree noticed the car going too fast and shouted for Hollins to slow down, according to the victim’s family. That’s when Hollins reportedly struck and killed Barry.

Petree’s niece Amber Hill says Barry died saving her aunt.

“Jason pushed her out of the way. Otherwise, we would be talking about my aunt being dead right now. Jason pushed her out of the way and saved her life” says Hill.

Petree remains hospitalized.

Her niece says she may lose her leg as a result of the incident.
