Man Killed In Mount Vernon House Fire

Firefighters were on the scene of a fatal fire in Mount Vernon on Monday morning.  

The fire was reported at 655 South Edgewood Road around 8 a.m.

One man, identified as 55-year-old Peter Ribar, was killed in an upstairs bedroom.

According to fire investigators, the victim weighed around 400 pounds and was not very mobile.

A family member attempted to get the victim out of the home, but smoke in the stairwell prevented him from reaching the bedroom. The family member was able to get out unharmed.

The fire was determined to be accidental and not criminal in nature.
