One person was killed while trying to leave I-70 on foot after colliding with a tractor-trailer Friday morning.

According to police, a Honda Accord driven by 40-year-old Almamy Coumbassa was traveling eastbound on I-70, west of I-270 on the east side, in the center lane.

A tractor-trailer went to pass Coumbassa's vehicle using the left lane when his Accord struck the right side of the truck.

Coumbassa's car came to a stop in the center lane of the freeway and the truck was able to pull over to the shoulder.

Police said it is not known if Coumbassa suffered any injury from the collision.

Coumbassa's driver side door was damaged and could not be opened and he exited his vehicle through the passenger door.

As he attempted to leave the roadway, Coumbassa ran into a tractor-trailer passing his disabled vehicle to the right, according to police.

Coumbassa was taken to Grant Medical Center where he died in surgery later in the morning.
