Man Fires At Men Who Tried To Hit Him With A Car

A man opened fire on two men he says tried to chase him on a west Columbus street.

Columbus Police say the 44-year-old man was walking in the area of West Mound Street and Whitethorne Avenue Monday night around 10:15 p.m., when the men drove past him in a car and began yelling at him.

Officers say 24-year-old William C. Evans got out of the car and approached the victim.

Meanwhile, police say the driver, 27-year-old James B. Duncan, drove onto the grass and tried to hit the victim.

The victim pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired a shot at the car, hitting the windshield.

Police say that is when Evans got back into the car and the two suspects sped off.

The car was found a short time later, after being involved in an unrelated crash.

Police say the victim has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Evans and Duncan have been charged with felonious assault.
