Man Escapes Early Morning Fire At Home
A Columbus man is alive after escaping a house fire on the west side of the city early Thursday morning.
The fire happen around 12:30 a.m. at 269 Algonquin Avenue.
The victim told firefighters that he saw flames coming from his kitchen.
That’s when he decided to get out and call 911.
By time firefighters arrived, the home was completely engulfed in smoke and flames.
It took firefighters over a half an hour to get control of the fire, but at that point, the home was a complete loss.
The man did get out unharmed but the family pet died in the fire.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
Neighbors are assisting the victim until he can fire another place to live.
Arson investigators were on the scene this morning and were expected to rule the fire as accidental.
