Man Dies After Being Shot, Left Along Delaware County Road

A shooting investigation became a homicide case after a Columbus man died one week after he was shot and left for dead.

Dontee Gervins spent more than a week in the hospital after he was found shot along Red Bank Road, in Harlem Township on Nov. 9. He was pronounced dead in a Columbus hospital on Nov. 18.

Investigators did not know if the Gervins was shot in the area or just dropped there.

He went to a nearby house, where the resident called 911.

"He's lying on the ground by my door, banging on the door, saying he's been shot," the caller told dispatchers.

The caller did not open the door but police responded to the home. Investigators said that Gervins did have a history with the law, including charges of robbery and drug trafficking.

Detectives were working to determine if the shooting was drug related.

A person of interest was identified, but the investigation was ongoing.
