A man is charged with assault on a peace officer after allegedly getting into an altercation with the officer at a church on Sunday.

According to court documents, Troy Jonas refused to leave the Faith Mission Church, located at 300 E. Long St., at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday.

Police were called and found Jonas lying on the ground of the church, documents stated.

The pastor of the church told the responding officer that Jonas was intoxicated and refused to leave.

The officer tried to pick Jonas up off of the floor, and Jonas threw several punches at him and kicked him, according to the court.

After calling for backup, Jonas had to be taped to bring him under control, police said.

The officer was uninjured in the incident.

Jonas was held on $3,500 bond on Tuesday.
