Police said that a man is behind bars after he was caught looking into a teenager’s window.

Jose Hernandez-Rivas is charged with voyeurism for incidents at Sawmill Commons Apartments in northwest Columbus.

The father of an 18-year-old girl said someone first peeped into his daughter’s window in November.

“Unfortunately, we live in a sick world that's getting sicker. It's scary,” said Eric Steverson.

Steverson thought the peering was over, but it started again in January. He said his daughter could see the shadow of someone looking into her window.

“First and foremost, I'm concerned about my daughter's safety,” added Steverson.

He put Styrofoam in the window to block the view and then set up a camera to try and catch the criminal.

“It was like a repeated thing, where we would see footprints that basically would lead up to the window,” said Steverson.

During one of the incidents, neighbor Jason Henn got a look at the peeper. Monday night, he spotted the guy again and called police.

“He saw the cops. That's when he tried to make his escape, and I just basically jumped out of my car and grabbed him,” added Henn.

Steverson is glad his neighbor helped put the suspect behind bars.

Hernandez-Rivas is scheduled to be in court on Tuesday.
