A man was arrested early Wednesday after allegedly breaking into vehicles, leading authorities on a chase and crashing.

According to the Licking County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Dominique C. Butler was arrested after an Etna Township resident called authorities about two people breaking into vehicles.

Another resident called 911 after he said he saw two men steal his mini-van.

Licking County Sheriff’s deputies said that they spotted the stolen mini-van and tried to stop the van along state Route 310 in Pataskala.

The driver of the van did not stop, and a chase continued to S.R. 161, where the driver turned east toward Granville. Officials said that they tried to stop the driver with spike strips.

The driver then lost control of the van, which rolled over on the highway. The driver, identified as Butler, was ejected.

Butler was taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

Authorities said that they believed the other man accused of breaking into vehicles fled prior to the chase. His identity and whereabouts were unknown.

Anyone with information about the second suspect was asked to call the Licking County Sheriff’s Office at 740-670-5555.
