Man Accused Of Beating Dog With Hammer, Stabbing Another Undergoes Mental Evaluation
A man who police said attacked two animals and then set a fire to hide the alleged crime has been admitted to a mental facility.
Josh Payton is accused of attacking two dogs in February. He was slated to appear in court on Wednesday.
According to police, one dog was beaten with a hammer and another dog was stabbed multiple times. The animals were taken to the Capital Area Humane Society to recover.
Humane agents said in February that the dogs' rightful owner was out of state when the abuse occurred, but has since signed over custody to their agency.
According to police documents, Payton reportedly told authorities "bad people do bad things sometimes."
