Columbus police said a west side elementary school was placed on lockdown Monday afternoon.

Police said that Highland Elementary School, located at 40 S. Highland Ave., was locked down shortly after 3 p.m. The lockdown was lifted about an hour later.

School officials said that the school was let out late because of the Level 2 lockdown, which meant that students were forced to stay where they were in the locked building.

Students were released shortly before 4 p.m.

Officers said that police were searching for a suspect out of a robbery.

Police said a man entered a doctor's office in the 2200 block of West Broad Street, pointed a gun at those inside and demanded cash.
