Local Songwriter Hopes To Help Fight Against Cancer

Music is inspiring strength in cancer survivors.

Ceylon Wise is the songwriter behind, "We are Survivors," a tune The Minister of Music at Faith Ministries wrote for his Praise team to sing at this year's "Race for the Cure."

Komen Columbus used the song as a fundraiser in June, and now this month, 50 percent of song sales will go to the Stefanie Spielman Fund at The James.

The song is personal to Wise, as his mother-in-law is a long-time colon cancer survivor and was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

He said that seeing her go through chemo, radiation and surgeries gives extra meaning to the term survivor.

"Cancer is a really big giant, but we believe that if we work together as a team, that can go a long way in advancing um the research for finally finding a cure" Wise said.

You can download "We are Survivors" on iTunes or Amazon, and learn more about the song at survivorsongs.org.
