Kasich Meets With Top GOP Donor In Las Vegas

WBNS-10TV has learned Gov. John Kasich stopped by the Venetian Casino in Las Vegas last month and met privately with its owner Sheldon Adelson. Kasich was in Las Vegas to attend the Republican Governors Association conference.

Adelson is a Las Vegas casino billionaire who almost single-handedly underwrote the Newt Gingrich campaign this year. It's estimated Adelson donated up to $150 million to outside Republican groups.

"He's a big Republican activist, so I went over and talked to him," said Kasich about the meeting.

Kasich said the conversation never turned to his plans for re-election in 2014, or a potential presidential bid in 2016.

"We talked about lots of different things," he said.

Other high profile Republicans have also reportedly met with Adelson. The 2016 Republican presidential primary will be wide open with no incumbent in the mix.

Many Republican strategists said Kasich's stock in the national GOP field will go up significantly if he wins re-election in 2014.

No Republican presidential candidate has ever won the White House without carrying Ohio.

"I can't imagine what John Kasich is talking to Sheldon Adelson about in Las Vegas, if it's not about money," said Democratic strategist Dale Butland. "After failing to buy a president, perhaps Adelson wants to buy a governor."
