A homeowner says two thieves tried to shoot their way into a North Columbus home.

The homeowner says that he was eating lunch when he heard a knock at the door, and then the sound of a shot.

He says that the two young men were wearing placards to make it appear as if they were selling something.

After they knocked on his front door, they went around to the back of the house.

The homeowner tells us that he feels fortunate that they did not get in.

“It makes me mad, didn’t scare me - ticks me off. People always want to steal what you have instead of going out and working for it like everyone else does,” said Ricky Hampton.

The homeowner described the suspects as two black men who appeared to be in their early 20s. They left in a black Pontiac Grand Am.

A BB gun was stolen during another burglary in the same area the day before.

Police are not saying if there is any connection between the two crimes.
