Hocking Co. Church Fire Declared Arson; Reward Offered For Information
Investigators said Saturday that a fire that leveled a church was intentionally set.
The South Bloomingville Christian Church, located along state Route 664, caught fire around 3 a.m. Friday.
In all, 19 firefighters responded to the scene, but there was no saving the church. All that remains of the structure are the front steps and a wall.
Bishop Scott Davis said that he believed the church was a target of hate crime because the church was openly accepting of the LGBT community.
Davis said that he purchased the church two years ago from a member of the community.
Investigators offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information about the person responsible for the blaze. The Division of State Fire Marshal encouraged anyone with information to call 1-800-589-2728.
