Heath Basketball Player Kicked Off Team For 'Inappropriate Touching' Allegations
A Heath High School varsity basketball player has been kicked off the team and is facing a criminal investigation for "inappropriate touching."
The Newark Advocate reported the investigation in a story on Friday.
The newspaper did not name the male athlete because no formal charges have been filed.
Heath Police Chief Tony Shepherd told the newspaper that the investigation was sparked by allegations of hazing. It was launched on December 31.
"This is much more than hazing," Shepherd told the Advocate. "The acts were reprehensible and criminal in nature."
The chief would not provide further details.
Police reports indicate that there was an incident of "inappropriate touching" and there may be as many as five alleged victims.
All of the victims are part of the basketball program.
