Transportation Safety officials say a Beretta .22 was found in a passenger's bag when they were attempting to take a flight from Port Columbus to Fort Lauderdale.

The TSA discovered the gun in the carry-on Wednesday morning.

Officials say the gun was not loaded at the time.

The passenger was cited for criminal trespassing by local law enforcement.

Firearms are prohibited in carry-on bags, but can be transported in checked bags if they are unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline.
