Half-Million Dollar Bond Set For Man Accused Of Killing Grandmother
A man accused of murdering his grandmother faced a judge Tuesday morning, and new details emerged in court about the investigation into the murder of 77-year old Doris Durette.
Prosecutors say when medics arrived at the victim’s home in the 1600 block of Rosepoint Drive in south Columbus they found blood on the floor, the furniture, and the walls.
Prosecutors say the victim’s grandson, 35-year old Jeffrey Smith, told medics his grandmother had taken a fall the day before, and indicated she fell down a lot.
Court documents reveal an examiner with the coroner’s office determined Durette died from a beating to the head and face, and found defensive wounds on her arms and hands.
Police say Smith was estranged from his wife and living with his grandmother.
Police charged Smith with murder and the judge set his bond at a half million dollars.
Police aren’t elaborating about a motive for the murder.
