Grove City Police Use Facebook To ID Criminals

Police in Grove City said they are seeing a good response to posting crime alerts and criminal suspects online.

The police department started a Facebook page nine months ago. They post photos, mostly from business security cameras, and ask for assistance.

Sgt. Rick Hardy said the department doesn’t take the photos down, but once they ID or arrest someone, they stamp the picture to keep the public informed.

Hardy said they get tips from readers in the comment section, such as when a woman was identified after a money-changing scheme.

"One we put out on Nov. 6, and by Nov. 8 we have an ID on somebody, and that individual was charged with a crime,” Hardy said. “It permeates the rest of the department and community."
