Grove City Band Prepares For Fiesta Bowl Appearance

The Grove City High School marching band wrapped up their final practice Thursday before heading to the Fiesta Bowl.

The band has more than 240 members, and they were practicing at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center at Ohio State.

It’s not the first bowl parade for Grove City, but members said the excitement never gets old.

“I think only a total of 14 bands are going from across the country, and we're the only ones from Ohio. It's really exciting to go and represent Ohio and Grove City,” said Matt Hakes, band member.

“It'll definitely be exciting to get away from the cold weather and the snow we've been having here,” added Cyler McLure.

Some of the band members have never been west of the Mississippi. They have now worked hard, and the community has helped out.

“We had several businesses step up to the plate to help kids. We have some both parents are out of work, some (families with )one parent out of work,” said band director George Edge.

The Fiesta Bowl parade takes place Saturday which will be followed by the band championship competition Sunday at the University of Phoenix - Cardinal's Stadium.

“I get the enjoyment of watching children who've never seen the west get to see it, come together for a common cause, and represent their town with a lot of pride,” added Edge.
