Mental health professionals were evaluating a Highland County man Saturday night after police said he threatened to harm himself. The Hillsboro/Greenfield Joint Special Response Team closed down Waddell Street in Greenfield at 2:11 p.m. Neighboring homes were also evacuated. Police heard a shot from inside the house at one point. A negotiator reached Sherrod Compher over the phone and convinced him to come out of the house after about three hours of negotiations. Police said Compher, age 42, was apparently in distress over a domestic situation. Authorities said Compher came out off the house with a shotgun. One officer distracted him while another moved up from behind him and shot him with a Taser. When Compher fell, his shotgun discharged into the air. Compher suffered a head injury when his head hit a sidewalk. No one else was injured. Paramedics took him to the Adena Greenfield Medical Center. Police said Compher would be taken to the Greenfield city jail once his mental evaluation was completed. Charges would be determined at a later time. Watch 10TV News and refresh for more information.
