Funds are being provided to Hilltop residents so they can make exterior repairs to their properties.

The funds are from the City’s Hilltop Home Repair Program, and residents will be able to receive up to $20,000 from the about $500,000 that will be allocated to the program, pending the City Council’s approval, according to city officials.

"The Hilltop Home Repair Program is an important component of our neighborhood development efforts throughout the city," said Mayor Michael B. Coleman in a release Monday."This program will allow our Hilltop residents to not only repair their homes, but help increase the pride and care for the neighborhood and surrounding community."

Homes on the Hill CDC (HOTH), a non-profit community development corporation, is set to partner with the Hilltop Home Repair Program to help market the program, identify potential grant recipients and to coordinate the application process with the applicants.

"Helping residents complete home repairs is a key to improving our neighborhoods," said Councilmember Zach M. Klein, chair of the Development Committee.  "This very targeted approach will allow us to have a greater impact in an area of critical need."

The Home Repair Program helps those who own a home with exterior repairs while facilitating pride and responsible ownership in the following area: railroad tracks to the north, parcels located to the immediate south of Sullivant Avenue, Fairmont Avenue to Lechner to the east, parcels located to the east of Lechner to W. Broad Street and Wheatland Avenue, and parcels located to the immediate west of S. Hague Avenue.

Council county officials are also expected to give its approval to a program that will give help to those eligible veterans around the city. The program is called Better Municipal Care for Veterans Home Fund, and raise funding from $15,000 to $20,000 for veterans’ home improvements or those households that have an eligible veteran permanently living there.
