Police were investigating a report of a man attempting to lure a girl into his vehicle Tuesday morning.

Police received a call at about 7:20 a.m. regarding a man who tried to get a female Westmoor Middle School student into his vehicle in the Hilltop area while she made her way to catch a bus.

In a letter scheduled to be sent to parents, school officials said that the alleged enticement occurred in the area of Lechner and Doren avenues.

The girl, whose identity was not released, got on her bus and told the driver what happened. The driver then told the school principal.

School employees called police, who were continuing to investigate. A description of the man accused of trying to lure the student was not released.

School officials encouraged parents to review safe practices when encountering strangers and said that the female student did the right thing by telling school officials.

Eugene Glover, whose niece attends Westmoor Middle School, said that abandoned homes and empty parking lots surround the path that children take to their bus stops.

“There are a lot of kids,” said Glover. “You have three bus stops in this area, and there are a lot of stray cars coming through this area.”

Glover said that he would be watching more carefully every morning.

“No, it’s not safe around here with these abandoned homes, because they can take them up in these abandoned homes or end up dead,” Glover said. “You don’t know what’s going on in there.”

Police said that they were not treating the alleged incident as a true child enticement case because there was no conversation between the man and the girl.
