Gas Leak Forces Evacuation Of Lancaster Junior High School

Students from Thomas Ewing Junior High School in Lancaster were evacuated on Thursday due to a gas leak.

The leak was discovered around 8:30 a.m.

Older students were moved to Lancaster High School. Sixth and seventh graders were bused to Stanbery.

School officials said all students would be moved to the high school for dismissal Thursday afternoon.

Update From Lancaster City Schools:

Parents who wish to pick-up 6th & 7th grade Thomas Ewing students at Stanbery, can do so beginning at 1:45 PM.  Students who normally walk home from Thomas Ewing will be bused to Ewing and released to walk home from Ewing.  The gas leak at Ewing has been shut off and the area is safe.  Students who are normally bused to Stanbery will be released to walk home at 2:00 PM.  Students who are bused to home drop-off areas will be dropped at their normal locations close to their normal times. 8th grade Thomas Ewing students, who are at the High School, will be released at the normal 2:38 time. They will also be able to ride their normal bus home.
