Free Dental Service Provided For Columbus Families In Need
More than 100 people received free dental services Friday morning in Columbus, and that number was expected to grow throughout the day.
For the second year, doctors volunteered their time to provide free dental care at Fixari Family Dental on Kimberly Parkway.
It is part of a partnership between the Fixari Family Dental and the national non-profit organization Dentistry from the Heart. Dr. Mark Fixari said money often prevents patients from seeking care.
"Dentistry, unfortunately, is an expense that not everybody can afford,” said Fixari. "To be able to give back in this way, it's an amazing thing."
Chandra Burns arrived from her east Columbus home to take advantage of the services.
"We don't have dental insurance. We're a family of eight, so when I heard about this - I said hey maybe this will help me." Burns said. "I have a lot of pain in my lower left jaw so I decided to come on out.”
The one-day event continues until 5 p.m. on Friday. Patients must be in line by 4 p.m. to receive services. Those eligible must be 18 years or older with financial need.
