Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy Charged With Drunken Driving Elects To Retire

The Franklin County Sheriff said on Thursday that a special deputy who was suspended after allegedly driving while drunk has retired.

According to Sheriff Zach Scott, Deputy Thomas Banks retired effective Monday, Dec. 17.

Banks is accused of attempting to use his position to avoid arrest for allegedly driving under the influence in November.

Banks initially told police that he was the head of the county's OVI Task Force, something that Sheriff Zack Scott said was not true.

Banks originally denied being drunk. Police said that he later admitted to drinking seven shots of unknown alcohol.
