Franklin County Corrections Officer Charged With Vehicular Homicide In Hit-Skip Crash

A corrections officer with the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide & aggravated vehicular assault after hitting two people – killing one of them – last weekend.

According to police, Scott Haslehurst struck two bicyclists on Appian Way early Sunday morning in northeast Columbus.  After striking the cyclists, Haslehurst fled the scene, but soon returned wearing different clothes.

Officers who arrived on scene say Haslehurt was staggering and appeared unsteady on his feet.  When officers asked  Haslehurst if he was involved in the crash, he replied, “yup.”

Haslehurst agreed to a Breathalyzer test and registered a .366 alcohol level - which is considering life-threatening - and was placed under arrest for OVI.

He has been placed on administrative leave and his bond was set at $60,000.
