The Fairfield County Clerk of Courts indicted on 12 counts has pleaded guilty to two of them in a plea deal.

According to the Lancaster Eagle Gazette, Deborah Smalley pleaded guilty to theft in office and attempted theft in office. They are both third-degree felonies.

The other charges will be dismissed.

Her trial had been set to start on Monday.

Ohio Auditor Dave Yost released the following statement:

“Her prior claims of innocence were overshadowed by the evidence pile,” Auditor Yost said. “I am glad to see that Mrs. Smalley is, at long-last, taking responsibility for her actions.”

There was no immediate word on her sentencing.

Her husband, David Smalley, is due in court in September to face charges surrounding the investigation.
