Former Daycare Worker Faces Child Sex Charges
A Marysville man who worked with children is behind bars on child rape charges.
Union County Sheriff's deputies arrested 24-year-old Joshua Simpkins Wednesday on allegations he had inappropriate conduct with a child under the age of 10.
10TV did some digging into Simpkins' background and found he formerly worked at two Marysville child care centers.
"It made me quite angry actually," said Bill Dufort when he learned of the charges against Simpkins.
Dufort says all four of his daughters attended Bizzy Totts Child Care Center while Simpkins was working there.
Dufort says he immediately had a talk with his girls after finding out Simpkins had been arrested to make sure they weren't victims.
"It's kind of difficult. I mean trying to be appropriate when you talk to them about it because they don't understand," Dufort said.
Simpkins faces two counts of gross sexual imposition and one count of rape.
It's not clear if the victim ever attended the Bizzy Totts Child Care Center.
10TV spoke with the center's director who is also Simpkins' mother. She says she let her son go in February when the allegations came to light and that he has not returned to the center since then.
She also stressed that her son has not been convicted of any charges.
Simpkins also previously worked at A-plus Child Care Learning Center. That center's director would not comment other than to say it has been 4 or 5 years since Simpkins had last worked there.
Dufort says he has no reason to believe his own children were victimized.
"Not to my knowledge," he said. "I hope to God."
But he will be paying close attention to what happens in the case.
"I prefer to see him go to jail for the rest of his life if he's convicted," Dufort said. "It's disgusting. It's repulsive."
Simpkins is currently being held in the Tri-County Jail with arraignment scheduled for July 25th.
