Former Columbus Police Officer Faces Additional Sex Crime Charge
A former Columbus police officer charged with sex crimes against with two teenage girls now has another charge leveled against him.
Todd Smith, 49, has been charged with sexting with two 15-year-old students at the school and coercing one for sex.
A federal indictment now accuses him of also coercing the other girl for sexual activity.
Smith was arrested in July when he allegedly attempted to meet one of the teens near her home at 2 a.m. Smith was under surveillance at the time, according to the agent. The agent testified Smith showed up, unaware that he was conversing with FBI agents who had intercepted the teen's phone. When he arrived, he was met by agents and arrested.
Smith’s trial is scheduled for Nov. 26 in front of U.S. District Judge Algenon L. Marbley. He is being held without bond.
