FitzGerald Enters Ohio Governor's Race For Dems
Ed FitzGerald, the top Democratic official in Cuyahoga County, has officially entered the campaign to challenge Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich in next year's election.
The Cuyahoga County Executive kicked off his campaign with stops in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati.
FitzGerald described the Kasich administration as lobbyist-directed, cutting school aid and backing tax policies that benefit the rich.
The 44-year-old former FBI agent and Lakewood mayor calls himself a reformer who helped restore integrity to a scandal-ridden county government in Ohio's most populous county.
A Quinnipiac poll last week showed Kasich leading FitzGerald 46-37 percent. Over 76 percent of Ohioans said they don’t know much about FitzGerald.
Kasich told 10TV Wednesday afternoon that his re-election is "all a matter of how people feel. Do they feel like they're economic future is better? It's up to them. Right now they feel that way."
