Three banks and a salon were locked down on Tuesday after a threat was received.

According to Circleville police, the U.S. Bank, located at 166 E. Main St., the Savings Bank, located at 118 N. Court St., a PNC Bank, located on East Main Street, and Angelina's Tanning and Hair Design salon, located at 559 E. Mount St., were locked down Tuesday morning.

Police said that the lockdowns were prompted by an unknown but violent threat that mentioned bombs and weapons.

Police said that the salon first received a threat, and bank officials reported similar threats shortly after.

According to a representative from Frontier Communications, Circleville police asked the company to conduct a phone trace on the threats and then placed the banks under lockdown.

Angelina Nutter of Angelina’s Hair Design said that she received a threatening phone call from a man at 8:47 a.m.

“He told me a man was standing on the corner and that I was going to be asked to do some things and if I didn’t cooperate, the man was going to come in and kill me,” Nutter said.

Nutter said that she did not want to take any changes, so while she was on the phone, she locked the front door, hid in a bathroom and called police.

“Now I’m thinking, ‘Who is it?’ and ‘Why me?’” Nutter said.

She said that the same man called back about a half hour later, but she refused to answer his questions.

“He said, 'Well, if you don’t do that, the guy is going to come and hurt you,’ and I said, ‘Well, just go ahead and send him in then,’ and he’s like, ‘Do you actually understand the guy will come in and hurt you?’”

No one ever came in, but Nutter was not the only one to receive a similar call.

“I only can say at this point that it’s bizarre, and we’re looking to get some answers,” said Circleville Chief of Police Wayne Gray.

Nutter said that she hoped investigators soon would figure out who was behind the threat.

“There’s a lot of crazy stuff going on,” Nutter said.
