Investigators said on Tuesday morning that they tracked down a man suspected of shooting and killing a woman Monday night.

Police said that they arrested Tane Osborne in connection with the death of his ex-girlfriend, Paige Young, near the intersection of Smith and Garfield streets in West Jefferson at about 8 p.m.

Osborne, 24, and Young were at Osborne's house on Smith Street to exchange items when Osborne allegedly shot Young three times, 10TV’s Ashleigh Barry reported.

Young was shot in the head, pelvis and torso.

Police said that Young, a 2009 graduate of West Jefferson High School, was taken to Doctors Hospital West in Columbus, where she died.

Investigators said that they saw Osborne fleeing the scene of the shooting but lost track of him until they caught up with him in Marion at about 3 a.m.

Tina Smith, Young’s sister, said that she received a phone call that she would never forget.

“When you wake up that day, you never know if it’s going to be your last, and for her it was, and it just doesn’t seem real,” Smith said. “We’re waiting for her to come back, you know.”

Brooke Young, Paige Young’s sister, said that she thought Osborne wanted to be more than friends with Young and he could not handle being rejected.

"It wasn’t anything serious,” Brooke Young said. “We don’t know why this happened.”

Osborne currently is being held at the Multi-County Correctional Center in Marion.
