Family Killed In Upper Arlington Crash Laid To Rest

A community said goodbye on Saturday to a family lost in a tragic crash.

Eid Shahad, his wife and four daughters were laid to rest following a prayer service at the Noor Islamic Cultural Center.

A social worker who knows the family said the Iraqi refugees came to the U.S. about three years ago looking for a better life.

Shahad and his wife leave behind four sons, who were home with their grandmother at the time of the fatal crash early Friday morning.

Their vehicle crossed into the intersection of Riverside Drive and Fishinger Road and was struck by an Upper Arlington police cruiser, which was headed to the scene of a robbery on Henderson Road.

A candlelight vigil was slated to be held at the scene of the crash late Saturday.

The Upper Arlington police officer who slammed into the vehicle was released from the hospital Friday evening. He is expected to be OK.
