Family, Friends Mourn Loss Of Reynoldsburg Teen Hit By SUV
The family of Jasmine Sadiq was trying to come to terms on Friday with the death of the 17-year-old.
Relatives told 10TV News she and a friend were walking from a retirement community where she worked when they were hit by a SUV Thursday night.
Columbus police said Sadiq and Jeffrey Tyler Smith, 18, were crossing Hamilton Road at Thompson Road shortly before 8 p.m. when they were struck.
Sadiq was pronounced dead at the scene. Medics took Smith to Grant Medical Center, where he was recovering on Friday.
The driver of the SUV stopped at the scene and was not expected to face charges. Witnesses told police the driver had a green light at the time of the crash. The crash remained under investigation.
Sadiq's uncle said the Encore Academy senior would leave a lasting impression on his family's lives.
"Even though she's no longer here with us, she will live through each one of us," Mike Chanthasene said.
A spokesperson for Reynoldsburg schools said classmates were remembering Sadiq on Friday.
"The students were talking about her smile and sense of humor, talking about how friendly and generous she was," spokeswoman Tricia Moore said.
Sadiq's uncle went on to describe his niece as a girl who touched many lives during her short life.
"Even though she's taken from us so young, this is the one person who I can say lived her life to the fullest with what time she had," Chanthasene said.
Moore said she expected students to plan a memorial for Sadiq.
